Register a BC Personal Property Lien – 3 Year Term

$40.00

A personal property lien is a legal claim registered against movable or intangible assets to secure repayment of a loan, lease, or obligation. Filing a lien in the BC Personal Property Registry gives public notice of your interest in specific assets and helps protect your right to recover what you’re owed.

What can be registered?

  • Consumer goods (furniture, electronics, tools)
  • Equipment and inventory
  • Vehicles, boats, aircraft, trailers
  • Licences and chattel paper
  • Crops or fixtures attached to land (but not the land itself)
  • Software, intellectual property rights, and other intangibles

Who registers personal property liens?

  • Lenders and financial institutions (for loans secured with assets).
  • Leasing companies (for financed equipment or goods).
  • Private lenders or investors.
  • Suppliers offering credit-based sales.
  • Landlords or service providers securing unpaid obligations.

What you’ll need to provide:

  • Secured Party: At least one party holding the security interest (name, email, and address)
  • Debtor(s): The person or business owing the obligation. Multiple debtors can be added (e.g., a company and its owner). If you’re registering both a business and the person behind it, enter each as a separate debtor. Full legal name(s) of individuals and businesses must be entered correctly (entering incorrect debtor names may invalidate your lien).
  • Description of General Collateral: You must include at least one form of collateral, describing the property being secured by the lien e.g. All office furniture, computers, and electronic equipment located at 123 Main St., Vancouver, BC.

Once submitted, your lien is publicly registered and searchable – giving notice to others that the asset(s) listed are legally tied to your claim. We take care of the full registration process to ensure your filing is correct, compliant, and legally enforceable.
